FOURTH DAY: PRESENCING

Water /Journey to fulness of life .

Breaking news!

Theme for the 2017 General Chapter: “Bearers of hope, listening to the voice of the spirit, moving forward together towards the peripheries”

Periphery…marginalized places/ people, the voiceless, talent and potential unexplored, situations neglected at personal and collective levels.

Who is a fully alive woman?

Our experience in groups to feel with woman, her sufferings represented in the collective drawings of the identity of the woman led us to the following responses:

Nature: Woman bearer of life and hope in struggles through resilience – a woman lives a life of struggles yet deep within her is that power of resilience to give birth to hope and life.

Lavigerie: The liberty of an African woman is possible - Despite the sufferings that the woman goes through; she has potential to face the challenges of life but most of the times the potential is not explored because of the culture and religious beliefs. Even if she suffer, she is the source of hope and life.

Misericorde: Woman source of life, who fights for a better life – the woman possesses in her the multi potentials which allows her to face the challenges of life and enables to move on with life.

Pope Francis: Woman, source of life despite oppression -  from our image we found that the woman even if she has difficulties she has in her an energy which allows her to bring life that is why we conclude that she is the source of life even if she is oppressed.

Pelican: Passion for life in a challenging world – an African woman has great passion for life despite the challenge and difficult situations the society presents before her.

Water: Journey to fullness of life - Woman “African woman”  with all her struggles, difficulties, challenges, ups and downs are all for life giving , life in its fullness; the journey of an African woman is not that straight.

The enemies of transformation according to theory U:

The Voice of judgment, voice of cynicism and the voice of fear.

Interesting experiences: drawing the masks representing the different voices.

What was our experience?

Through laughter and dance we felt liberated and accepted our masks; with a lot of joy, energy and with hope for change and not letting these voices to influence our life in future.

FIFTH DAY: PROTOTYPING AND CO-EVOLVING

Has it ever happened to you to dream?

"The dream bearer is the dream carrier. You have the dream and you have to carry it." (Leymah Gbowee)

The dream for us at the end of this workshop as temporary professed sisters is to live the values of the baobab tree in our communities and in our apostolate.

It does not matter: “God used the foolish things of this world to confront the wise” (Leymah Gbowee)

We are all called to be co-creators, people who dream, people who believe in their dream, people who believe in the power of unity and the possibility of a better world for all.

Co-Creating: the movement of the ‘U’ that enables us to explore the future by doing, enacting prototypes of the future by linking the intelligences of the head, heart, hands and by iterating through the guidance of fast-cycle feedback from all stakeholders in time.

The enemies of the ‘U’ in its upward movement are the 3 old methods of operating:

Executing without improvising and mindfulness (reactive action).

Endless reflection without a will to act (analysis paralysis)

And talking without a connection to source and action (blah-blah-blah)

Do not respond upon impulse always, act upon the will instead of perpetual analysis and be in touch with the source instead of blah - blah - blah.

We finished our workshop with a joyful creative recreation together the General council team, Elisabeth Villemure, Christine Bahati and our facilitator Yago Abeledo, Missionary of Africa.

Do not fear to carry your dream and realize it. Be that “prophetic” voice of your time.

OUR INSPIRATIONAL SYMBOL

Qualities

Solid, resistant to a diversity of climates, it is medicinal, the leaves give calcium (strengthen the bones), gathers the wise people, there is a myth (it brings fecundity to the women), the fruits are eatable, provides shape (gives comfort), big birds make their nets (nice view) the branches are flexible, the skin is very hard, but the second layer is very soft. It is a sacred tree, it cannot be cut, when it is cut, it takes very long to dry, it does not burnt, it is very different from others, but it is beautiful, it takes long to grow, it is thick, it can grow out of a seed or out of a stem, the roots are very deep, all is eatable or useful for medicine, the leaves gives iron and the fruits gives calcium, the tree last very long. It is rare. Everything is eatable.

How do we identify ourselves with this tree?

  • Its resistance, its strengths and its struggles, we go through the ups and downs; we get healing and also we bring healing to others.
  • It takes time tree to grow; we do not grow in one day.
  • Its sacred, our lives are also sacred.
  • We have a purpose of being. We have also our ways of bearing fruits, of welcoming people. We have our own wisdom and we attract wisdom.
  • Its skin is very hard, but the second layer is very soft. Our hearts are soft, ready to receive and to give, to let go and to welcome  change.
  • Its shade and fruits. Our energy, our passion and compassion in dealing with other.
  • Its resistance and its deep roots. Our attachment to Christ helps us  to face difficulties.
  • It’s a place of gathering and dialogue. To come a refresh ourselves to continue the journey.
  • Its fertility. Through our femininity we give life. Our capacity to adapt to different situations, climates, places.
  • Its special. Each one is unique and together we complement each other.

FOURTH DAY: PRESENCING

We started the day with a drum dance. Drum dance is a way of meditation and getting intouch with oneself and an encounter with God.

The call of the day: presencing  (presence and sensing)

Called to let go everything that is not essential and an invitation to let come and to the deeper purpose in life.

According to the deepest assumption of theory U, each  human being and each community are not one but two selves, the current self and the emerging future self. The objective of the U experience is that the twos selves begin to listen to each other.

“Our past very often shapes our present life”.

“Jesus was so human, so human that he could only be God –It  is through our humanity that we discover  our divinity.”

We want to bring our voice as the young professed sisters to  the general chapter 2017. We chose to present the symbol of the baobab tree which has the following qualities:

Solid, resistant, medicinal, fecundity, shelter, strong and thick, sacred,  food, unique and beautiful, etc.

We explored how we are already living these qualities and how we are being challenged by them.

On a beautiful note we concluded the day celebrating  the presencing with our daughters the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou (the sisters, novices, postulants and the general council) and our brothers the Missionaries of Africa with passion and joy.  We had  wonderful time with music, songs, eating and sharing. Each one of us received a souvenaire of kitenge. Indeed it was beautiful and unforgotable.
